Familar Men: A book of Nudes Laurie Toby Edison What's it like to be a man? Familiar Men: A Book of Nudes A CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS Could you write about being a man? Photographer Laurie Toby Edison is working on a book of male nudes: the men we see every day: all races, all shapes, all ages, not the athlete, the rock musician, or the model. The pictures tell a very powerful story: but the book needs more. If you can write about your own experience of being a man in today's world, at work, at home, on the street, in your sex life, this book needs you. Please submit a brief personal essay (400 words max.), not an academic analysis, about yourself and/or the men you know. Topics to consider include your experiences: with friendship and family with childhood with race with heritage with pride with violence with masculinity with spirituality with power (or the lack of it) with sex with yourself with anger with other men with work with self-image with education and any other personal experiences that relate to being male. You DO NOT need to be a professional or published writer. Essays from men of color, teenage men, seniors and working class men are especially welcome. Payment is $25 for each essay used.
